Hi there, I’m George Benson,

My Mission Statement

“Helping the over 50’s to take an honest Self-Assessment, identify and implement lifestyle changes then go on to lead a happier, healthier life”

Are you over 50, bored, unfit, depressed, or just troubled by how you look and feel?

If this describes your good self, then consider this:

you have already completed the first half of your life!

Is this how you want to spend the second half?

I have been there too, and then some!

Which, luckily for you, means, I can help…………………HONESTLY!

So, how can I help you? Why put your trust in me? Why read my blog?

I'm going to ask you to look at leading a happier, healthier life in a different way.  Although I am a qualified personal trainer, I earned my first qualification many years ago, and now I'm over 50, things have changed:

im older, im slower, less agile, more creaks and groans when I move.

This means I have to look at health and fitness in a different way, and I will, and hopefully you will too.

If your in your fifties, or older, and you haven’t exercised in a while, your eating habits have gone on holiday and you just feel like crap, then the very last thing you need when looking for inspiration is to log onto a site promising to help you only to be confronted with Arnold Schwarzenegger training regimes and glossy pictures of men in black satin thongs on a beach showing off a 6 pack.

That doesn’t help, its not inspirational, its not motivational and only piles on the pressure and makes you feel even more miserable and depressed. The first thing you will reach for is a lager 6 pack and a pizza.

So what am I going to do that is any different?

I am going to ask you to look at things holistically. Have you noticed how I use the words HAPPY & HEALTHY? Have you noticed that I haven’t used words like WORKOUT, WEIGHT TRAINING or WEIGHT LOSS!

We are going to try and do things as nature intended, cutting out visits to the doctors and chemists.

We are going to try and swap the medication for wholesome, natural alternatives.

Please don’t get me wrong, I will cover exercise throughout my blogging because it is important, has many benefits and plays a vital role in keeping you happy and healthy. However, my approach differs in that I suggest you start with slow, deliberate, small steps, then build from there.

I will deal with exercise, but will also cover:

  • Why bother at all?
  • How to get started
  • What REALLY makes you ill
  • Mental health
  • Breathing Techniques
  • Sleep
  • Motivation Techniques
  • Nutrition
  • Remove negativity
  • Supplements
  • Water Filtration
  • Toxins and how to remove them
  • Exposure to EMF’s

So, who am I and why am I here trying to promote my blog? You could say im a typical 56 year old male: Terraced house, a dog, married (not to my dog), three kids, a mortgage and the usual additional debt comprising home improvement loan, credit cards etc. I was born in a small town in West Cumbria, so by England standards it was about as remote as you can get. You could say my childhood was typical of the times back then, and I was raised under the banner of “lower middle class”.

I have been interested in trying to keep fit and healthy as long as I can remember, however, I have also been troubled with motivational issues and the odd physical set back i.e. rotator cuff damage to both shoulders, umbilical hernia, severe food poisoning and a very badly broken right arm. I guess what im trying to say is that I class myself as normal, beset by the usual troubles and issues most normal people go through. But, im still here, a bit battered and bruised, but generally in good health and happy. I credit this to a few certain constants through my adult life: a strong and stable marriage/family, positive mental attitude, open minded critical thinking and an interest in healthy mind and body.

So, here I am, just stepping off the indoctrinated hamster wheel after 40 years of working for the same company, and I thought “What Now”? So, I stopped, took a deep breath and had a good look around. It shocked me! It seemed everywhere I looked I was seeing a significant number of miserable, zombified, unhealthy, miserable (have I already said that), chronically ill people. Whenever and wherever I went out, I deliberately watched people, took notice of their behaviour, they way they carried themselves, the lack of smiles and willingness to make eye contact was almost zero. Just try it yourselves.

I sensed an opportunity, an opportunity to try and help, to get people to raise their heads, smile, think positively, get off medication, remove toxins, be more active in mind and body, however, initiate this change with slow, small steps.  I strongly believe that the human body is a wonderful, amazing and very resilient design, and if you keep it as free of toxins as you possibly can, feed it the right stuff, keep of a positive mindset, it will stay healthy and recover from anything the world can throw at it.

To summarise, I’m slightly overweight, drink copious amounts of red wine and spiced rums, no 6 pack, 56 year old, lots of ails, pains, creaks and groans, but I’m HAPPY & HEALTHY!

I manage my diet (as best I can)

I remove toxins where possible (I ignore the ones in red wine or spiced rum)

I filter my tap water

I stay away from medication (maybe the odd Anadin Extra if I'm hungover)

I constantly care for my mental health

Exercise regularly

Use breathing techniques

Get enough quality sleep

Distance myself form toxic/negative people

Im hoping you take a peek into my blog and let me share with you what I have learned over the years and checkout the information and tools I utilise to stay HAPPY & HEALTHY! Cheers.
